Md Wood Products provides biochar-based soil amendments for agricultural and horticultural use. Our products promote the soil’s fertility by enhancing its physical structure, water-holding capacity, and nutrient retention.
What is Biochar ?
Biochar is a substance that is similar to charcoal that is produced by heating biomass at high temperatures in an atmosphere with a low oxygen content that contains at least 60 percent carbon. This is accomplished by a thermal process that is known as pyrolysis. Pyrolysis, which is performed at temperatures far higher than those required to produce ordinary charcoal, is used to create biochar, which endows it with specific qualities that are aimed at promoting the health of soils.
how will Biochar make your soil better?
- Boosts both inorganic and organic carbon in the soil
- Helps plants grow better, improves soil health and fertility, and reduces the need for fertiliser.
- Increases the soil’s ability to hold water and nutrients. Gives beneficial soil microbes, like mycorrhizal fungi, a place to live.
- Carbon is put back into the soil, which locks up carbon in the air.
- Soil pH and cation exchange capacity increased
- Can be added to mulches and compost to encourage microbial activity.
- Can be mixed with fertilisers to make them more available and reduce loss.
- Make aluminium and other metals less harmful.
How to use?
Applications can be made on an annual basis-
Put directly into the root zone or combined with your preferred fertiliser to stimulate plant growth. Additionally, it can be applied as a top dressing to existing crops. Application will vary according on soil types, vegetation, and the surrounding environment.
